Robinson signed with Baltimore in 1955 and spent his entire 23-year career with the team, making 15 All-Star appearances and winning two World Series titles. WellSpan Park, the York Revolution’s stadium, is located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way in his honor.

Baltimore Orioles third base legend and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson passed away Tuesday at the age of 86, according to multiple reports.

“Brooks Robinson belongs in heaven, not here on the ground, because of the way he plays third base,” Cincinnati manager Sparky Anderson toldRobinson was elected to the Hall of Fame – on the first ballot – in 1983 after retiring in 1977. He was also honored as one of the best 25 players of the 20th century after being selected to the MLB’s All-Century team in 1999.

“Robinson was instrumental in bringing baseball back to York, serving as part-owner of Opening Day Partners, the ownership group of the York Revolution,” the organization said in aRobinson was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, underwent abdominal surgery in 2010 – which led to an infection in 2011 – and was hospitalized for a month after falling off a chair during a 2012 banquet,
