Abbott Nutrition expands its recent recall to include Similac PM 60/40.
ALBANY, Ga. -Health experts say thousands of families could be affected by the current baby formula recall. At least five pediatric illnesses and possibly two deaths are being blamed on recalled formula.
This recall comes after another recall on February 17, where parents were warned against other lots of Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare powdered formula. This particular batch of Similac was produced in the company’s manufacturing facility in Sturgis, Michigan, and was exposed to possible Cronobacter contamination.Cronobacter is a very rare illness, but it can be deadly for infants. It often occurs during the first days or weeks of a child’s life.
Parents should look to see if their formulas are included in the recall by checking the bottom of the container for these specific things. The first two digits of the code are 22 through 37, and the container contains “K8,” “SH,” or “Z2.” Also included in the recall are containers whose “use by” date is April 1, 2023, or after.Leah Beckford is the Nutrition Manager at Dougherty County Health Department WIC program.
