Premier David Eby leads trade mission to Asia focused on expanding relations with Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam. Find out more.

“It’s certainly a time of high tension between the United States and China and the government of Canada and China. Those tensions are exactly why I think we need to make sure that we have a diverse array of trading relationships,” said Eby.

Eby said, for example, they will be discussing with Japan and South Korea how they can accelerate work on hydrogen, considered a clean energy. In 2022, B.C. exports to Mainland China totalled $8.48 billion, accounting for 13 per cent of the province’s total exports, according to B.C. government statistics. That was down from $8.89 billion in 2021, when China accounted for 16.5 per cent of B.C. exports.
