San Diego State doesn't have a 1,000-yard rusher returning, but plenty of experience and promising newcomers
Fr. Nichola Gardinera, Fr. Martin Blake, Fr. Ace Saca .Chance Bell and Jordan Byrd are “super seniors” taking advantage of the extra year granted by the NCAA in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.
The 5-9, 170-pound Byrd’s effectiveness is primarily outside in space where he can use his sprinter’s speed to outrace defenders. Creating those situations is the key to expanding his role. Byrd led SDSU running backs with 13 receptions last season. Expect more targets for him this year. Another one to watch is Cam Davis, a 5-8, 180-pound redshirt freshman from Dallas whose quickness could get him some carries.
