Festive fall centerpieces, plus comfort food, converged Sunday in North Park. More workshops planned over the next few weeks.
OK, so we San Diegans may not have giant piles of crunchy leaves to dive into from every curb. And it's too hot for flannel. But we have our own delectable take on fall. Really, we do. We've got sunflower fields, spooky hayrides, fall cocktails, Octoberfests and pumpkulents. Pumpkulents? You know: Pumpkins. Covered with succulents. 'Pumpkins just make everybody so happy,' said Cynthia Chamberlin, a San Diego floral artist who specializes in succulent arrangement workshops.
For Melissa Rewolinski, a 54-year-old half retired pharmaceutical research and development consultant who lives in Scripps Ranch, Sunday was her first time making a pumpkulent and her fifth workshop with Chamberlin. 'Whatever we do, somehow it always looks good,' she said. 'I'm not a crafty person. But it ends up looking good, so I don't feel bad. And everybody's looks different.
