Astros tab Lance McCullers Jr. for Game 3 start in World Series
In his previous start last weekend in New York, Lance McCullers Jr. allowed three runs in five innings.Manager Dusty Baker said after Saturday night’s 5-2 victory in Game 2 of the World Series that Lance McCullers Jr. will be the Astros’ starter in Game 3 on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
It will be McCullers’ third consecutive road start in this year’s postseason. The righthander threw the first six innings at Seattle in Game 3 of the American League Division Series, which the Astros won 1-0 in 18 innings to eliminate the Mariners. He also started the clinching Game 4 of the AL Championship Series at Yankee Stadium, where he was in position to get a win after allowing three runs in five innings.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced a switch in his Game 3 plans, saying righthander Noah Syndergaard will get the start. Thomson said lefthander Ranger Suarez would pitch Game 4. Suarez was originally going to start Game 3 but threw an inning of relief in the Phillies’ 6-5 comeback victory in Game 1. Thomson said he got it would be good to extend Suarez’s time off before starting him Tuesday in Game 4.
