“He’s worked hard to get to this point, and he knows that we need him,” Baker said. “When you reach a goal in life, you have to make new goals, and I’m sure his new goals are to stay here.” The Cubs’ six runs through the first four innings Wednesday were nearly as many as they scored in the first two games combined . Cubs starter Drew Smyly allowed a lone run on four hits over six innings while striking out eight.
