Women's tennis No. 1 Ashleigh Barty defeated the U.S.'s Danielle Collins in two sets to become the first home winner of the Australian Open since 1978
The most memorable tournament run of Ashleigh Barty’s life lasted barely 7.5 hours.
It was all the time on the court that the women’s tennis world No. 1 required to power through seven matches in Melbourne and win the Australian Open on her home turf on Saturday. She defeated American Danielle Collins 6-3, 7-6. Barty, now a three-time major winner after victories at the French Open in 2019 and Wimbledon last summer, didn’t drop a single set in two weeks.
