As Memphis PD prepares to release Tyre Nichols bodycam, HPD Chief Finner urges responsible demonstrations

allegedly at the hands of Memphis police officers.

Five fired Memphis police officers were charged with murder Thursday in connection with Nichols’ death, according to the Associated Press. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said each was responsible in the killing, though they all played different roles.The Memphis Police Department is set to release video of the Jan. 7 traffic stop Friday, according to the Associated Press.

“Please know their actions do not reflect the great work the men and women do everyday in our profession,” Finner said. “We ask everyone in our great city to continue to lift up the Nichols family and the Memphis community during a very tragic time.”Representatives for the Houston Police Department declined to comment on the matter beyond Finner’s prepared statement.
