A man has been arrested in connection with a Saturday shooting that left one dead and 26 others injured at an Arkansas car show.
Brandon Knight, 22, was taken into custody on Wednesday after being released from a Dumas hospital, Arkansas State Police said in a news release.Knight was charged with first-degree battery and aggravated assault. He is being held at Dumas City Jail and is expected to appear in court Thursday.Gunfire broke out at the car show around 7 p.m. Saturday in what police described as a shootout between two people.
The incident occurred outside of the 16th annual"Hood-nic" event, organized by the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization, which said the event was intended to promote nonviolence in the community. The car show was part of the festivities, which included a parade, motivational speaker, award presentation, balloons, and more.
"We are all terribly saddened to have witnessed the mindless acts of violence that took place on this day in our community. No words are enough to condemn such horrific actions imposed upon the event attendees by devious external sources," the foundation said in a statement on Facebook. The investigation into the shooting is"active" and no further information will be released about Knight's arrest at this time, police said.
