RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. -- A suspect was shot and killed by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies after he charged at them with a knife in the parking lot of a Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamonga Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The sheriff's department said deputies were assisting the U.S. Marshals Office in attempting to arrest the wanted suspect. The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the store, located in the 7700 block of Victoria Gardens Lane. Deputies followed the suspect, who refused to comply with deputies, authorities said. After a few minutes, the suspect exited the vehicle and allegedly charged at deputies with a knife.Rescue personnel tried to help the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is confined to the parking area and did not occur inside the store," Rancho Cucamonga police tweeted around 3:51 p.m.Bass Pro Shops remained opened, but a portion of the parking lot was closed as an investigation continued.
