The Arlington school board approved labor contracts with its teachers union Thursday as collective bargaining efforts spread across districts in Virginia.

The contracts also add union representation in decisions about changing benefits — something that educators voiced concern about late last year.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Arlington Public Schools,” Superintendent Francisco Durán said Thursday. “These agreements reflect our commitment to supporting our dedicated staff. By listening to their voices and working collaboratively, we are setting a precedent for excellence and equity in education.”local government agencies to enter into collective bargaining agreements with unions for the first time since 1977.
