Apple shares on rise, but trillion-dollar market cap is a long way off
Shares of Apple Inc.
rallied 0.8% in morning trading Thursday, to extend the previous session's 2.0% jump on the back of its fiscal third-quarter earnings report, but was still well below the $1 trillion mark-capitalization threshold. Apple's 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Wednesday showed that the technology giant had 4,519,180,000 shares outstanding as of July 19, 2019, down from 4,601,075,000 shares as of April 22.
at $1.05 trillion and ahead of third-place Amazon.com Inc. at $930.1 billion. Apple's stock has run up 36.1% year to date, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.43% has gained 15.4%.
