According to Bloomberg, Apple is opening up the iPhone and iPad to third-party app stores in order to comply with a new EU law.

The DMA includes a number of “do’s and don’ts” for the gatekeeper platforms. The first “do” is that the gatekeeper platforms must “allow third parties to inter-operate with the gatekeeper’s own services in certain specific situations.”Apple is applying a significant amount of resources to the companywide endeavor.
