It is believed that Apple is creating its large language model in competition with OpenAI’s GPT-3 and GPT-4, Google’s Bert and LaMDA, Meta’s LLaMa-1 and LLaMa-2, among others.
, the company established a machine learning development project called "Ajax" last year.Currently, the Apple chatbot is being used in-house by Apple employees for product prototyping. The chatbot can summarize text and answer questions based on data it has been trained on.last year. This was followed by almost every big multinational tech company launching its version of a chatbot and LLMs.
Apple generated a revenue of around $320 billion last year. Its earnings could take a major hit if the tech giant doesn’t keep up with AI advances.report further said that Apple is hard-focused on AI with several teams collaborating on the project. But Apple isn’t the first company to feel and give in to the pressure. Google too has been put on the spot.
Taking a conservative approach towards AI, Apple is still working on defining the consumer angle for generative AI and trying to address the privacy concerns related to the technology, which other AI firms like OpenAI have also flagged.
