Collins, who died in 2021 at age 90, was the first person to orbit the moon solo during Apollo 11 in 1969.
Elizabeth Howell, Ph.D., is a staff writer in the spaceflight channel since 2022. She was contributing writer forfor 10 years before that, since 2012.
