ANTIOCH — Mayor Lamar Thorpe was punched in the chest after speaking at a luncheon on Tuesday, the mayor and other authorities confirmed.
“When it became clear he was seeking a confrontation, I asked him to leave,” Thorpe said in the statement provided by city spokesperson Rolando Bonilla. “As I attempted to walk away, the man punched me in the chest and was attempting to punch me a second time, but was not able to land his blow, as bystanders intervened to help me.”
