The ADL is reporting the number of antisemitic incidents reported to their organization has reached an all-time high nationwide and here in the PNW.
The vandalism outside the Mercer Island synagogue. The graffiti reads "Shame on Israel" and "Stop Killing." after the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7, and the alarming pattern has continued into this year. Law enforcement agencies who partner with the ADL say they’re seeing an increase in antisemitic and hate crimes across the board.
“In Washington state, I think there might be a myth or confusion that we're a very welcoming place that is immune from intolerance, but the truth is, that is absolutely not true,” Cypers added. “If you just look at the ADL audit, we had 65 incidents last year, and that increased to 190, and those range from all over the state.
“Even before Oct 7, we were seeing an elevated threat environment targeting these communities. the situation has worsened,” FBI Seattle Supervisory Special Agent Ryan Bruett said. Law enforcement officials who investigate these types of crimes said this is not a time for panic, but it is a time to be vigilant.
