The National Weather Service has issued flood advisories ahead of the potential for heavy rainfall overnight and through Friday in New Jersey.

New Jersey’s short-lived reprieve from rainy weather will soon come to an end with the “several” inches of flooding rain expected to soak the state overnight into Friday before the bulk of the precipitation winds down at night.says it’s possible 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall on New Jersey from the coastal storm, final precipitation totals as well as locations for the heaviest rain are still to be determined.

“There is definitely a trend towards some areas getting some pretty heavy rain by the time the system starts to depart Friday evening...the question being, where,” the weather service said in its Thursday morning discussion. “Thats a question we can’t yet answer.”The weather service has already issued flood advisories for most of state that begin at various times late Thursday or early Friday.

More than an inch of rain is expected to drop on New Jersey's five northeast counties from Thursday night until Saturday morning.Power outages shouldn’t be an issue with this storm. Winds are only expected to be 10 to 20 mph with an occasional gust of abut 30 mph possible along the Jersey Shore, the weather service said.

Thursday will be mainly dry with highs only in the low to mid 60s. Though the bulk of the rain shouldn’t begin falling until after midnight, forecasters say showers could begin pushing in from southeast to northwest during the evening. Moderate to heavy rain is expected to fall most of the day on Friday before winding down late Friday night. Some showers or occasional downpours are possible through the overnight into Saturday morning.A stretch of dry, sunny weather starts Sunday and should last though Wednesday. Daily highs should reach the low to mid 70s.
