The London Zoo has begun the annual weigh-in of its 560 species. With almost 20,000 animals in the zoo (yes, they're all cute), the process takes over a week to complete.
Lions, meerkats and penguins were on display along with a host of other species as the annual weigh-in at London Zoo began Thursday.
There are around 560 species and 19,000 individual animals in the zoo, meaning the annual weigh-in takes over seven days to complete. Meanwhile, Oni the okapi -- an endangered species from Central Africa and a relative of the giraffe -- tipped the scales at 554 lbs. Most importantly, the annual weigh-in can detect pregnancy in some of London Zoo's endangered populations, which can then be shared with other zoos and conservationist groups worldwide.
