Andrew Tate: His grasp on the boys I teach is like nothing I’ve seen before, says UK teacher
In other TikTok and YouTube videos the American-born British citizen talks about hitting and choking women, and says that women should be treated like property. Following his arrest on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group, Tate is now“Initially it wasn’t the sexism itself that the boys at my school were taken in by,” says James, “but the lifestyle Tate was promoting: cafes, girls, money – the kinds of messages that can appeal to young men.
He estimates it’s about 20 per cent of boys he teaches who are vocally pro-Tate, but he guesses more like 40 per cent take an active interest in him.Meanwhile in London, Mia*, a senior leader at a state secondary school, started this academic year with pupils coming up to her and asking her if she knew about Andrew Tate. “The boys would say it in a defiant or challenging tone, often when they were irritated about something,” she says.
Mia says: “I could see what it is that attracts my pupils to him. Around 70 per cent of the community I work with are living below the poverty line, teen homicide is the highest in London on record since teh Second World War, and there’s a significant pull towards gangs. What Tate is saying to them is essentially ‘people don’t really care about you, but you have reasons to be a confident man.’
