Late Bronze Age Mongolian nomads used metal cauldrons to ferment yak milk and process sheep and goat blood for blood sausages.

“With this new evidence for Bronze Age yak milk, we now know that people had been using yaks for dairying for much longer than we expected,” scientist told IE.Researchers from the University of Basel, in collaboration with scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology in Jena and the National Museum of Mongol ia, undertook the study.

“It demonstrates that the Mongolian tradition of using as much of an animal as possible has been a common practice for millennia,” Dr Wilkin noted. As per the statement, the radiocarbon dating suggests that the cauldrons date back to the late Bronze Age, implying its use nearly 2,700 years ago. Wilkin said that as the team recovered several proteins with hundreds of peptides, “We are very confident that these findings are not modern contamination.”
