A witness told police that Nathan Williams shot Shnon Choi outside the Chelsea Inn with a handgun Choi had sold to Williams earlier, charges filed in the case said.

A 33-year-old Anchorage man faces first- and second-degree murder charges in connection with a Memorial Day shooting outside a Spenard hotel.

The other person involved in the argument left, but Choi did not and Williams then shot him twice, the complaint said. The nature of the disagreement is still under investigation, according toChoi and Williams had known each other for about four years, the complaint said. A witness told police Choi sold Williams the gun used to kill him about a week and a half before the shooting, according to the complaint.

Police say they identified Williams as the suspected shooter through witness interviews and security footage. A hotel employee who was dating Williams could be seen on camera tampering with the video after the shooting occurred, according to the complaint. The employee was charged on June 2 with felony evidence tampering.
