Anchorage Assembly leaders weren’t satisfied with a Bronson administration’s report Tuesday and said they will continue to press for answers about the hiring of former Health Department director Joe Gerace.

Assembly member Meg Zaletel moved to immediately release the recording of Tuesday night’s executive session, according to a written statement from Assembly leadership. Members voted 7-4 in favor of releasing the tape.

“There was an expectation that records of a confidential nature would be provided during the session, but I don’t feel that threshold was met,” Zaletel said. “Nearly all that was shared with us was already on the public record and therefore the tapes should be made publicly available. I think these things need to see the light of day.”to activate its chair’s subpoena powers.

The Assembly is also seeking legal advice on how to publicly release the administration’s report, which Tshibaka gave members during the executive session. “The public has been seeking answers on the Gerace issue for months, and Assembly leadership sent a letter with questions to the administration in September 2022. After all this time, our community deserves to see the contents of this report,” LaFrance said.
