According to the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness, more than 3,000 people experience housing insecurity. At tonight’s assembly meeting, members will discuss long-term and short-term solutions to address homelessness.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Anchorage Assembly adopted the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness’ five-year plan, Anchored Home, which supporter say will use aThe plan, in part, seeks to establish a shared database between local, state, and private organizations of people experiencing homelessness and accessing their needs. The Anchored Home plan mirrors those of the U.S.
“Ultimately, the community is best served when the question of who coordinates and leads on the homeless response is moved away from the political process, the local government that has a very rapid turnover once every three to six years, and instead is housed within the community so that the community has continuity, and those plans are able to last more sustainably and durably over time,” Constant said.
A separate item postponed to a special assembly meeting on July 19 recommends awarding roughly $1.1 million in funding for the East 56th Avenue shelter to the group, 99+1.“There was a bidding review requested by one of the bidders so that they didn’t believe that the bidder was qualified — the purchasing department has identified that they did not meet the qualifications” Constant said.
“What happened was, you know, there were some text messages that were taken out of context, from a disgruntled employee that were read into public record, that if they would have came to us beforehand, we could have elaborated. You know, to experience something that personal to go into a public record without any regard for the the truth of the matter. That definitely took a toll on us. So,” Henning’s Chief Operations Officer Rob Seay said.
