Pascal Siakam’s bounce-back helps Raptors silence Thunder
The ball moved, the shots became easier, Pascal Siakam looked far more like his usual self andLeaving further behind the disappointment of last week’s three tough losses out west, Toronto registered a 128-111 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night that showed the potential this group might have.
All five starters and Gary Trent Jr. off the bench scored in double figures as the Raptors won their second game in a row and moved within half a game of Atlanta for eighth place in the East.The arrival of Jakob Poeltl at last month’s trade deadline added a different look to some of Toronto’s offence, because he’s far more adept at pick-and-roll action than any centre the Raptors have had in years.
He did that in his highest-scoring game since he had 29 points in Detroit nine games ago. Siakam hit three three-pointers, got to the free-throw line eight times — he’d taken five in total in four previous games — and was 9-for-19 from the field in a 25 point outing. But what it’s also done is even out some of Toronto’s scoring load, as the balanced distribution of points on Thursday night showed. With Trent re-emerging as a premium scorer off the bench for at least one night — 23 points with four three-pointers — the Raptors had five players with more than 15 points, and no one had more than Siakam’s 19 field-goal attempts.
