Kenyan Drake, who played for the Crimson Tide from 2012-2015, officially retired Friday after eight seasons in the NFL.

“Hard to believe 8 seasons have come and gone. I’ve loved the journey - the wins, the moments big and small, the comradery, the energy, all of it. I can’t say I loved everything , but certainly appreciate the lows and the grind, and know those moments grew me as a football player and more importantly as a person,” Drake said in a caption posted to his Instagram. “Ready to enjoy a little retirement and see where the next chapter takes me.

As a freshman in Tuscaloosa, Drake played behind Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon but was still able to rush for over 200 yards and five touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2013, Drake, alongside Yeldon, rushed for nearly 700 yards and had nine total touchdowns. Drake only appeared in four games in 2014 after unfortunately breaking his leg, but returned in 2015 alongside Derrick Henry. During that season, Drake rushed for over 400 yards and had two total touchdowns. During the national championship game that season, he returned a 95-yard kickoff for a touchdown in the 4th quarter en route to the Tide’s 45-40 win over Clemson.

Drake was drafted in the 3rd round by the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 NFL Draft and scored the game-winning touchdown in what is one of the most memorable plays in recent NFL history,Drake was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 where he played until 2020. After the Cardinals, Drake played for the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens , Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers.
