Daily News | Amid his family’s pleas for leniency, a Malvern man was sentenced to state prison for murder
A Malvern man pleaded guilty Monday to killing a former friend during a botched drug deal that turned into a shootout on a residential street in Cheltenham.
But before County Court Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy handed down Massiaz’s sentence, she took time to acknowledge the more than 30 family members, friends, and classmates who attended the hearing on his behalf. An argument between two men escalated into a fatal, roving gun battle on a suburban street, DA says
Some of the group supporting Massaiz took turns addressing Demchick-Alloy, testifying that he is a kind, considerate, and thoughtful young man who puts his family first. He erred, they said, by selling marijuana to make money on the side as he attended Lincoln University, but they asked the judge to give him as short a sentence as possible.
“We also are here to recognize that the victim in this case was a human being, and he’s not here with us anymore,” Frame said.
