A judge with the Moscow City Court rejected the appeal, ruling that Gerhskovich must stay in jail until at least May 29. He has been held in Moscow’s Lefortovo prison, which dates from the czarist era and has been a terrifying symbol of repression since Soviet times. The United States on April 10 determined that Russia has 'wrongfully detained' American Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, effectively saying that espionage charges are bogus and that the case is political.She added that Gershkovich has received letters from his parents and supporters, but so far hasn’t been allowed any phone calls.
