Cindy McCain's move comes after she has served as the Biden administration liaison on food security from Rome.
US diplomat Cindy McCain visited a World Food Program distribution center in Poland on Wednesday, as it prepares to provide long-term aid to Ukraine and refugees. Ambassador Cindy McCain is reportedly set to leave her post as a Biden administration representative to the United Nations on food issues to lead the U.N.'s World Food Program.
McCain was confirmed as the ambassador to the U.N.'s food agencies in October 2021. The post came afterPresident Joe Biden, who was a longtime friend to her and her late husband, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. The World Food Program is currently led by David Beasley, the former Republican governor of South Carolina. Politico reported that Beasley would consider running for the U.S. Senate if Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., enters the 2024 presidential race or if Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., retires.
