If you answered National Jellybean Day, that’s also correct. This is the 53rd Earth Day — the first was back in 1970. Earth Day aims to raise awareness about our planet and protect the environment through education and action to make the place we call home sustainable.
If you said no, I wouldn't be surprised. As a 26-year-old who, at least in my view, keeps up with the news of the day and is deeply invested in our weather and climate, I’ve heard very little about it this year. Maybe it’s just me, but there doesn’t seem to be the same type of momentum or awareness around Earth Day as there used to be.
We have a lot going on in our world, including a global pandemic, wars, the cost-of-living crisis, among several other issues. I don’t think anyone would blame you if Earth Day wasn’t at the top of your priorities list. However, our Earth should be a priority for everyone, not just on Earth Day. We’re seeing firsthand how our climate is changing around us. Whether people want to admit it, the changes are both natural and human-caused. Outside of our climate, go for a walk or a hike, and you’re bound to find litter and waste dumped recklessly.Small actions like recycling, cleaning up litter or living a more eco-friendly livelihood help, but we must continue to push for more sustainable choices and greener solutions with our resources.
