Hurricane Franklin will begin tracking to the northeast mid-week but is forecast to remain south of Atlantic Canada.A developing low-pressure system will strengthen as it moves over Atlantic Canada, and the associated weather fronts will tap into tropical moisture, including from Franklin. Embedded downpours and thunderstorms are forecast in this rain, easing to lighter showers into Thursday for the Maritimes and into Friday for N.L.
A general 20 to 40 mm is forecast for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and southeastern Labrador. However, I expect widespread areas of 40 to 80 mm and local amounts of 80 to 100-plus mm in Nova Scotia and the south coast of Newfoundland.
