Northeastern Newfoundland has been experiencing a damp and dreary pattern for weeks. Now it's the Maritimes' turn for some much-needed rain. | SaltWire
The beginning of May will be unsettled across Atlantic Canada thanks to a trough in the jet stream. The weather for this first week of May seems more consistent with early April for most.
This weather is thanks to a large area of low-pressure spinning over the Great Lakes, extending weather fronts into the Maritimes. The low is beginning to break down, with a separate centre developing near Sable Island early Wednesday, with what’s left of the current system to follow behind it. We could also see some wet snow mixed with this rain on Wednesday in Cape Breton, northern New Brunswick and higher terrain in P.E.I. and northern mainland Nova Scotia.By Friday, 30 to 60-plus mm is forecast along the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia, with 10 to 30-plus mm elsewhere in that province plus P.E.I. and New Brunswick.
Much of Atlantic Canada will see improvements this weekend thanks to high pressure, but a trough could trigger some spotty precipitation in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
