It comes without warning — and leaves the same way. Some people love it, some hate it. With the right equipment, it is easy to differentiate between fog and other clouds, according to Alicia Torregrosa, an environmental scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey."Fog clouds are very warm, and they're very wet. The higher cumulus, and even higher cirrus clouds, are much cooler, even freezing, and they're also much less dense."
Fog can vary greatly, according to Dr. Peter Weiss of the Physical and Biological Sciences Division at the ."There's overcast, and dry, or there's soupy fog — but it's not really wet, and there isn’t any wind associated with it. And then there are other fog events where it’s just like it’s raining."
