BREAKING: All charges dropped against 'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett, his attorneys say.
on Tuesday, a month after he was hit with felony counts stemming from what police said was a staged street attack on himself in an attempt to get a pay raise, according to his lawyers.
A spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney Office said that there was no plea deal, but rather an "agreement," and that no community service will be required of Smollett. "Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him," the defense attorneys said in a statement. "Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement.
