Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), TedCruz, more lawmakers condemn Blizzard, Apple in open letter
“Because your company is such a pillar of the gaming industry, your disappointing decision could have a chilling effect on gamers who seek to use their platform to promote human rights and basic freedoms," the letter, addressed to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, reads.
U.S. lawmakers Marco Rubio, Ron Wyden, Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Mike Gallagher, and Tom Malinowski have penned letters to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick and Apple CEO Tim Cook condemning the companies for their recent stances on China and pro-democracy protests currently taking place in Hong Kong.
“We write to express our deep concern about Activision Blizzard’s decision to make player Ng Wai Chung forfeit prize money and ban him from participating in tournaments for a year after he voiced support for pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong,” the letter address to Kotick reads.the past two weeks after it issued a yearlong ban on professional Hearthstone player Chung "Blitzchung" Ng Wai for voicing support of the protestors in Hong Kong during an official livestream.
