The new positions are slated to go to students at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Red Deer Polytechnic, Lethbridge College, and Keyano College in Fort McMurray. In an interview with Postmedia, Advanced Education Minister Rajan Sawhney said the announcement reflects a growing need from employers.

“What the business community is saying is that we just don’t have enough people. We just don’t have enough carpenters, electricians, heavy duty technicians,” she said.Sawhney added she expects other institutions beyond the five announced Monday may come forward in the coming months to seek funding. There was an error, please provide a valid email address.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
