Mike Ellis, Alberta’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, has been in “direct contact” with Bill Blair, his federal counterpart, Mr. Aitchison said. Mr. Blair’s office confirmed this contact and said the federal government stands ready to support the province., told reporters Sunday that the federal government has been “monitoring closely” the wildfires and floods in Alberta, B.C. and Quebec.

Fire damaged 21 structures in Hansonville, Lobstick and Wildwood, which are small communities about 100 kilometres west of Edmonton, Mr. Blair said. Homes and buildings have also been affected on the O’Chiese First Nation and near High Prairie, Alta.
