Alaska along with 10 additional states, to include the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, announced their plan to sue the Environmental Protection Agency.
The reason for taking legal action is based on the EPA’s failure to update wood stove emission standards.
“The Notice of Intent urges the EPA to fix one component of a completely dysfunctional wood stove certification program to avoid litigation,” according to a State of Alaska press release and states, “[i]f newer wood heaters do not meet cleaner standards, then programs to change out old wood heaters may provide little health benefits at significant cost.”
