On Wednesday, Alaska Airlines’ chief operating officer released a video apologizing to customers for widespread travel issues during the holidays.
“This holiday season, you experienced a significant delay, a missed connection, or more canceled flights, extended time on the tarmac, or perhaps a lost bag. We fell far short of the standard of care you have come to expect from us. This was the most difficult holiday travel season we’ve ever experienced at Alaska, although we both increased staff and prepared extra equipment to de-ice and keep the snow cleared, we ultimately did not perform,” Constance von Muehlen said in part.
Airlines have canceled tens of thousands of domestic flights since Christmas because of weather and staffing issues due to the ongoing pandemic. Alaska said it has already begun looking into where improvements can be made and plans to do better the next time similar challenges arise.
