Showmen and watchdogs: Alabama Secretary of State candidates touted their experiences and approach to elections earlier this week.
All four Republican candidates appeared at a Mobile County GOP event at a local church on Monday.
He said he knows what it’s like to be “at the courthouse at 5:30 on election day,” and travel around speaking to poll workers who administer elections. The legislation is a response to Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta Platforms Inc., who gave out more than $400 million in grants so states could buy election-related equipment. The money was utilized in seven Alabama counties that supported Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election, which was overwhelmingly won in the state by former President Donald Trump.
“In 2020, we were all stunned when we woke up the next morning and our President of the United States was not the president, so they say,” said Horn. “We need to have strong voter ID, incredible audits to make sure your vote is not stolen ever, ever again.”
