A hunter from Ajax is heading back to school after shooting a deer on someone’s property in Peterborough.

According to testimony, Richard Rosborough was driving his truck along Preston Road in Peterborough County on November 3, 2020, when he saw a deer standing on private property. Even though he did not have permission to hunt there, Rosborough got out of his truck and while standing in the travelled portion of the road, fired two shots at the deer, killing it.

Court heard he made no effort to retrieve the deer and according to the justice of the peace, Rosborough showed no concern for public safety when he fired his gun from the winding public road onto the property containing a driveway and a cottage. Rosborough pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm while hunting. He was fined $5,000 plus a victim fine surcharge. In addition, he had his hunting licence suspended for one year and is required to retake the hunter education course. If you have found a spelling error, please, notify us by selecting that text and pressing
