Residents with heart or lung disease, the elderly and children are advised to reduce exposure by avoiding strenuous activities outdoors and to stay inside.
Air Now reported levels of particulate matter 2.5 are especially high. This is a measure of fine particulate matter in the air.The unhealthy air quality is caused by controlled burns Tuesday in southwest Louisiana, which created smoke that was brought to Houston by winds, Space City Weather reported. The smoke has stayed near ground level but will eventually clear.
