I thought Bender’s next point was especially astute, and perhaps what’s most often underappreciated by data scientists without domain expertise in biology and chemistry. Bender notes that in contrast to a customer clicking a link, then buying a product, where the connection is pretty direct, the situation in biology and drug development is so much more complicated – and highly contingent.
