ICE deported the spouse of a soldier killed in Afghanistan, leaving his 12-year-old daughter stranded in the U.S. He was allowed to return to the United States on Monday.

.S. soldier who was killed in Afghanistan was allowed to return to the United States on Monday after being deported to Mexico last week by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Arizona Republic reported.

Gonzalez said, however, that he never received the notice to appear in court. He believes ICE sent it to the wrong address.

On Monday, Hernandez told CNN reporter Zachary Cohen that Gonzalez had returned to the U.S. The attorney said ICE had allowed his client back into the country after he circulated a news release to raise public awareness about Gonzalez’s plight.
