Here’s when to get your last all-beef Chili Cheese Dog on a steamed bun.

Next month, Caspers will sling its last hot dog in Walnut Creek.is closing its doors on April 16 at the San Miguel Center located at 1280 Newell Hill Plaza in Walnut Creek. The Walnut Creek restaurant, known for its longtime staffers and sunny yellow interior, opened in 1983. Founders Ardam and Stephen Beklian’s other East Bay locations in Pleasant Hill, Dublin, Richmond, Oakland and Hayward will remain open. Door Dash will be available via the Dublin and Richmond restaurants.

In a phone interview, co-owner Paul Rustigian said the closure has been many years in the making. But, being a family business, they strive to keep their restaurants going “even if they are only squeezing out a little bit of profit.” “It’s really got to be the end of the line for us to decide to close,” says Rustigian, grandson of the founders, who added that Walnut Creek store manager, Barbara Cannavino, has been with Caspers for 13 years. “These are peoples’ jobs for one, and then there’s our relationship to the community.”

Rustigian says COVID was “pretty tough on the entire Caspers chain,” but especially the Walnut Creek location. He says he isn’t sure why.
