Senior Taliban minister says abuses by fighters will not be tolerated, ordering unit heads to remove 'miscreants and notorious former soldiers' from ranks

Mohammad Yaqoob, son of Taliban founder Mohammad Omar and acting defence minister, says"miscreants and notorious former soldiers" are not wanted in Taliban ranks, reminding fighters of general amnesty announced by the movement.

Mohammad Yaqoob, acting defence minister, said in an audio message that some "miscreants and notorious former soldiers" had been allowed to join Taliban units where they had committed a range of sometimes violent abuses. There have also been reports of reprisals against members of the former government and military or civil society activists, despite promises of an amnesty by the Taliban.
