Support local with these fantastic Ontario wines at the LCBO

It feels good to drink local. But sometimes, you just can’t get to wine country to taste and buy a few bottles. So here’s your list of best value Ontario wines at the LCBO — starting with a bon vivant in bottled form.2021 Malivoire Vivant Rosé, VQA Beamsville Bench

is a pale peach swirl of summer in a glass with its traces of tree-plucked apricot, red fruit and honeysuckle playing softly on the nose. The sunlit attack tastes brisk but round, mouthfilling yet not at all forward. Flavours flit from white peach and barely ripe strawberry to orange — flesh and pith. The depth and dimension of this dry rosé tastes sophisticated and immediately charming. You could drink glass after glass. Bring on the bowls of nuts, olives and kettle-cooked potato chips.

Like Champagne, this bottle is made bubbly using the traditional method, which means a still wine is made first. The wine is bottled. Then, yeast is added to each bottle, and the bottles are capped and left to . This second fermentation in bottle creates tiny, delicate bubbles and imparts complexity — rewarding the added expense and patience required for the process. Finally, the spent yeast is disgorged. The wine is topped up with reserve wine. And the final wine is corked and completed.

The NV Cave Spring Estate Grown Blanc de Blancs exudes the fragrance of lemon curd spread on butter croissant as well as the delicate scent of white flowers, nougat and nuts. The attack is brisk and refreshing with its tiny bubbles dancing across the palate, creating an almost mousse-like creaminess in the mouth. Flavours flit from French lemon tart to toasted meringue to almond to toasted pastry.
