Out of all the superhero movies in 2023 so far, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse quickly became one of the year's biggest hits as Miles Morales returned to the big screen.
A huge surprise during the Spider-Man. Across the Spider-Verse ending was the reveal of Earth-42's Aaron Davis, voiced once again by Mahershala Ali. The big twist, however, was that in this universe, Aaron isn't The Prowler, but instead it's Earth-42's Miles. Before Earth-42's design for Aaron was finalized, it appears there were alternative versions of him. Kris Anka, who worked on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, revealed new concept art for the design of Earth-42's Aaron, saying, "this pass wasn’t successful, he came off too nice.
Miles and Aaron looking scary or intimidating also helps to toy with expectations after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as there may be a reason they appear the way they do in this universe, to help differentiate from the other realities. Very little is known at this point about Earth-42, which makes Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse more exciting as it will be able to expand upon this reality.
The bigger question right now is how much Sony will be displaying Earth-42 in its Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse marketing when that begins. Given how much they kept under wraps for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it feels fair to assume they will keep a lot of plot details close to the chest, especially when it comes to Earth-42. For the time being, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to release on Blu-ray and DVD starting Sept. 5.
