ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Those in the St. John’s courtroom for Robert Regular’s trial Tuesday spent the morning learning the mechanics of erectile dysfunction as the defence called its third witness to testify.
Erectile dysfunction – the inability to maintain an erection sufficient for sex – affects between 46 per cent and 60 per cent of men over age 60, Drover testified.The causes of the condition vary and can include injury, hormonal issues and other health conditions, Drover explained, including high cholesterol and heart disease.
The defence took Drover – who testified as an expert in adult urology and erectile dysfunction, and has never treated Regular – through the medical documents, which he said indicated Regular had spoken with his family doctor about ED in 2011 and had been given samples of medication, with a later report indicating “ED improved.” The records also show Regular suffered from high cholesterol and significant heart disease.
In theory it could be, if a person had mild ED and had taken medication an hour or two before the activity, the doctor replied, but it would be difficult, particularly in that time length and without prior stimulation.
